Welcome to Starbright

We are looking forward to getting to know your family as we progress through the year.

There are many details you need to know when you start. Please use this list as a roadmap. Bring the following:

(Be sure to label everything with your child’s name)

Naptime Bedding: (Starbright supplies the mat.) Bedding must be laundered weekly by the parents. two fitted crib-size sheets (these sheets will not be returned and will be used by all the children), • a small pillow (we don’t have space for full sized pillows), • top sheet or light blanket/summer and heavy blanket or sleeping bag/winter. • cloth bag to hold the bedding (a pillowcase works well.

Complete change of clothing, appropriate for the season. We go outside everyday in every kind of weather. • Children who are toilet training need several changes. • Winter: coat or jacket, a hat, mittens and warm shoes as well as several layers of clothing. • Rainy days: raincoat (unlined for Texas heat) with a hood or separate rain hat, & boots.

Diapers: disposable diapers, wipes and any needed creams or powders. Rainbows have a special shelf in the classroom. • It is the parent’s responsibility to check the clothing box (each child has their own in the classroom) regularly & keep it full of clean clothes.

• No cartoon, TV or superhero pictures are allowed on clothing worn to school.

Insect repellent. Bring one bottle (without DEET) to share.

Lunches: Each child brings his/her own lunch to school each day. • There is not space in our refrigerator to refrigerate lunches. Use an insulated lunch box with ice packs. • Lunches should be wholesome and healthy. Candy, cookies, chocolate, soda, sugar-sweetened juice or other sugaitems are not allowed. We have found that those items make it more difficult for a child to rest / nap. • The lunch box should not have pictures of TV, cartoon or movie figures. • Include a napkin or a small cloth, (the children place their food on the napkin), and any necessary silverware. • Place the lunchbox on the shelf inside the classroom. Don’t forget to mark the lunchbox as well as any/all containers, napkins, silverware and cups.

Each class deck has the following: • A sign in/sign out log to be used each day your child attends with a short section for messages. • Leave all instructions and comments in writing, Just telling the teacher is not enough. The info needs to be available to all the teachers and office. • An activity chart reporting on nap, meals and the type of day your child had, as well as weekly activities.

Every child has • A box for “stuff” – any home toys that wander in, treasures from the yard, etc. Please don’t bring precious items to school. •  An art crate on the class deck with an art folder for each child’s art, crafts and projects. Please check this periodically & take the art home. • A cubby on the class deck for rainboots, shoes & coats.

There are bulletin boards in each classroom and on the decks with class information. There is a general information board in the Star Garden by the front entry. In the kitchen there is a cabinet for medications. There is also a clipboard with blank medicine release forms that need to be filled out each time a medication is brought. This includes non-prescription items such as homeopathics, cough drops and vitamins.

Deck Doors: Do not let children into OR out of the school without asking a teacher first. Pick-up: Do not let your child play in an area where there is no teacher present while you are getting everything together to leave. Gate: Never let children open the gate. Always shut the gate and check to see that the lock catches.

NEVER LET ANOTHER CHILD LEAVE THE YARD, EVEN IF THEIR PARENT IS COMING.
